Having a drink of water might never be the same again. Called Ooho, these jelly-like spheres are filled with liquid refreshment. Placed in the mouth and popped, it delivers a gulp of the beverage... along with some suprise. Developed by London-based start up Skipping Rocks Lab, the membrane packaging is made from seaweed so it will easily biodegrade, but you can also just eat it. (SOUNDBITE) (English) RODRIGO GARCIA GONZALEZ, FOUNDER OF SKIPPING ROCKS LAB, SAYING: "You see it's quite strong, it's quite tough. It's a work of engineering as well to make it resistant enough but so you don't choke on it. We're working as well on making double layers, so you can peel them off if you have it in your pocket, you can just peel them and eat the inside." The team hopes it will eventually help combat the problem of waste plastic bottles. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LISE HONSINGER, COO/CFO OF SKIPPING ROCKS LAB, SAYING: "Most people just grab a bottle of water, hold it for five minutes, drink it and throw it away. How can that then exist for 700 years? So this absolutely a solution to that." The company smashed their crowd funding target of 400,000 pounds in just a few days. The money will help fund a new machine that can produce a hundred-thousand Oohos a day. They're speaking to a number of commercial partners, but do have their eye one particular market. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LISE HONSINGER, COO/CFO OF SKIPPING ROCKS LAB, SAYING: "Obviously, people see these small round bubbles and they just think 'shots'. So that's definitely something we're looking at. We have encapsulated alcohol, we want to perfect it, and then hopefully this will be the Jägerbomb of the future." This summer, they'll be available at some marathons, with runners grabbing an Ooho en route instead of the usual plastic cup. And if the reaction of this crowd is anything to go by... Ooho is sure to make a splash.
