The Trump administration proposing to slash a QUARTER of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's budget. According to a source familiar with the matter, agency staffing would be cut by 20 percent. The budget proposal would cut deeply into climate-change programs designed to prevent air and water pollution, as well as environmental justice and enforcement… It's part of Trump's intent to reverse former President Barack Obama's climate-change initiatives… and Trump's broader proposal to fund increased military spending. (SOUNDBITE) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, SAYING: "Our military requires sustained, stable funding." State grants for lead cleanup, for example, would be cut 30 percent to $9.8 million. Grants to help native tribes combat pollution would be cut 30 percent to $45.8 million. But it's up to Congress to approve any EPA cuts. And some of those cuts, popular with both Democrats AND Republicans, would likely NOT pass through their filter.
