A wildfire in Yolo County, California, one of many in the state, is scorching hundreds of acres of land. Julie Noce reports.
A wildfire burning in northern California's Yolo County has scorched nearly 300 acres, local media said. Officials say the Cold Fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon near Lake Berryessa. Firefighters are working to create a fire line to contain it, media are reporting. Just a half mile away, voluntary evacuations have begun. (SOUNDBITE) English UNIDENTIFIED MAN SAYING: "It's voluntary so take it or leave it.... but I saw the fire coming over the hill here so I'm just leaving." (SOUNDBITE) English FIRE CAPTAIN RUSSELL WEST SAYING "There's fires all over the state right now so we're trying to get resources as fast as we can to get here, the drought's not helping and everything is tinder dry right now so it's not helping with the fire. Fire personnel are using helicopters and fire extinguishing planes to contain the blaze. Steep, mountainous terrain and hot, dry conditions have hampered efforts to quell the fire that's burning through drought-parched grass and timber.
