Officials say dry brush and timber is causing the raging ''Pilot Fire'' to spread quickly in California's San Bernardino County, where dozens of evacuations have been ordered. Jillian Kitchener reports.
Officials say the Pilot Fire is spreading fast in San Bernardino County, and has now consumed 4,500 acres. Firefighters say only 5 percent of the blaze is contained, despite hundreds of them working around the clock. (SOUNDBITE) CORONA FIRE DEPARTMENT, JOHN DEYOE, SAYING: "Dust and ash is flying around everywhere, you're tired, it's 3am, and you have to keep going." Dozens of residents were told to evacuate the Summit Valley area, east of Cedar Springs Dam. Some stayed put. (SOUNDBITE) HOMEOWNER, TOLBY WEISSER, SAYING: "We spent the night sitting in the front yard watching the flames- terrible." The cause of the fire, which erupted near Pilot Rock Conservation Camp on Sunday, is still under investigation.
