Firefighters do battle with a massive wall of smoke pouring out of the Sierra Nevada mountains. They're being forced to fight the so-called "Trailhead Fire" from the air because of the challenging terrain. The blaze has burned up at least 300 acres of land on both sides of the American River near Sacramento. The fire has led to evacuation orders in nearby Placer and El Dorado counties. Kathleen Herman says there was no choice but to leave. (SOUNDBITE)(English) KATHLEEN HERMAN, SAYING: "I'm just happy we're together as a family and got the important things out of the house and, that's all that really matters right now." Trail Head is one of several wildfires wreaking havoc in California and the Western United States after a recent heat wave and long dry spell. In Arizona, the Bug Creek fire has now consumed at least 1,000 acres, shutdown a major roadway and threatened homes. The wildfire season officially began in May but the nine major fires that have started in California over the past week mark the first widespread outbreak this year.
