SAN ANTONIO, Texas Texas Christian University star quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested in San Antonio early on Thursday for striking a police officer after a bar fight, police said.
Media reports said Boykin and some teammates had been in Pat O'Brien's Bar, a popular night spot on San Antonio's Riverwalk, when patrons began harassing him.
A police report said officers were called to the bar as Boykin, 22, fought bar employees who tried to remove him. Boykin was described by police as "very aggressive and was being held back by the group that he was with."
Boykin, one of the top college quarterbacks in the nation the past two seasons, took a swing at one officer, said San Antonio Police Sergeant Jesse Salome, but the officer was not seriously hurt. Boykin was arrested after officers threatened to use a stun gun on him.
Boykin, who was in San Antonio ahead of Saturday's Alamo Bowl game pitting the TCU Horned Frogs against the University of Oregon Ducks, could face charges of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and public intoxication, Salome said.
TCU sports spokesman Mark Cohen said university officials were aware of the arrest and were monitoring the situation. There was no immediate indication if Boykin would play in Saturday's game.
Boykin passed for 3,575 yards and 31 touchdowns this season and was ranked second in the nation in total yards.
